Privacy Policy
Cairn Live (“we”, “the app”) respects your privacy in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Data we collect
Depending on the features you use, we may process:
- Account: username, email address, password (stored securely), display name, registration date.
- Third-party sign-in (optional): if you use Google or Apple, an identifier from that service to link your account (without access to your Cairn password).
- Location: GPS coordinates when you view the map, publish an alert or photo, record or import a track, enable location sharing (public or trusted contacts), send an SOS, or during periodic position pings on a track.
- Published content: trail alerts, photos / viewpoints, public GPS tracks, ratings and comments on public tracks.
- Reports: reporter identity, targeted content (photo or alert), reason, optional details, date — kept for moderation.
- Trusted contacts: accounts you added for restricted location sharing.
- Reputation: score based on your activity (alerts, community confirmations).
- Technical: web session token, mobile API token, push notification token and platform (iOS/Android), server logs (IP address, timestamp, requests) for security and maintenance.
- Local device data: offline map cache, sync queue and preferences — stored on the device and not transmitted except when you trigger a sync.
2. Purposes
- Account creation and management, authentication.
- Displaying nearby public alerts, photos and tracks.
- Recording, syncing and sharing GPS tracks.
- Ratings and comments on community public tracks.
- Proximity notifications on the trail (trail radar, off-trail warning).
- Location sharing with trusted contacts or in public mode, if you enable it.
- SOS feature: distress alert visible to nearby users.
- Handling content reports by the moderation team (target: 48 hours).
- Abuse prevention, account suspension for breaches of the Terms of Use.
- Improving, securing and maintaining the service.
3. Legal basis
- Performance of the contract (using the app after accepting the Terms).
- Legitimate interest (hiker safety, moderation, abuse prevention).
- Consent (push notifications, location sharing, Google/Apple sign-in when applicable).
4. Recipients and access
- Other users: see content you publish (alerts, photos, public tracks, comments) and, depending on your settings, your shared location.
- Authorized moderators: access pending reports and moderation tools.
- Hosting: OVH (France) for data and photo storage.
- Mapping: map tiles go through our servers then OpenStreetMap (see their privacy policy); your position is not sent to tile providers.
- Notifications: push messaging services (Expo / Apple / Google) to deliver alerts.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
5. Retention
- Account data: while the account is active, then deletion or anonymization on request.
- Published content: until deleted by you, by the community (votes) or by moderation.
- Reports: kept as long as needed for processing and moderation audit trail.
- Technical logs: limited period (a few weeks) unless required by law.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability.
Account deletion: from your profile in the app or on the dedicated page suppression-compte.html (sign-in required). Immediate online processing; by email within 30 days: contact@cairnlive.app.
You may also lodge a complaint with the CNIL (www.cnil.fr) or your local supervisory authority.
7. Cookies, local storage and trackers
The website uses a technical session cookie to keep you signed in. The mobile app and website may use local storage (map cache, preferences) with no advertising cookies.
No advertising trackers or commercial profiling are used.
8. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures (HTTPS, hashed passwords, restricted moderation access). No transmission over the Internet is completely infallible.
9. Minors
The app is not intended for children under 15 without parental consent. If content endangers minors, report it via the app and via Pharos or your local authority.
10. Changes
This policy may be updated. The date below shows the last significant revision.
